Saltwater Pools & How they work!

Our pool is a saltwater-based pool, which some may assume does not contain chlorine. However, saltwater pools naturally generate chlorine through a process called electrolysis, where salt (sodium chloride) is broken down and converted into chlorine to sanitise the water. This process effectively eliminates bacteria, including E. coli. Additionally, we use ultraviolet (UV) lamps and sand filters to further purify the water, ensuring a clean and safe swimming environment.

Due to the high number of guests using our small commercial pool, natural chemicals in the water—such as chlorine and pH stabilizers—gradually diminish. This is a normal occurrence in busy pools, which is why we closely monitor and regularly balance the water chemistry. To maintain the standards of cleanliness and hygiene, we periodically use Salt Pool Shock to restore optimal chlorine and pH levels. This treatment helps to keep the water clear, reduces harmful bacteria, and prevents algae buildup.

When we add fresh salt, the water may temporarily appear cloudy due to natural fluctuations in pH and chlorine levels. However, this typically clears within 24 hours.

For reference, our pool is maintained with:
pH levels between 7.2 and 7.4
Chlorine levels between 1 and 3 parts per million (ppm)

Our Jacuzzi is not saltwater-based and is maintained at a higher chlorine level of 4 to 5 ppm to ensure proper sanitation.

Additionally, we perform regular backwashing of both our pool and Jacuzzi 2 to 3 times per week (or more, depending on usage) to remove trapped dirt and debris in the filters and drainage pipework, ensuring consistently clean and safe water.

If you have any questions, please contact us at reception@thehighfield.com.

Thank you for your cooperation, and we appreciate your understanding!
